A Cheetah, a Lion, a Clown , Oh My — Halloween Costumes

It’s the season again, in August I bought the fabric for this year’s costume and now I only have a few more weeks to get started on it. Luckily I’ll be able to follow my usual method of modifying an existing pattern for a one-of-a-kind costume.

I based my daughter’s first Halloween costume on a basic toddler romper pattern, something along these lines:

With the addition of a ruffled collar, a hat, and a large pompon the clown was created.

The following year she wanted to be a lion. Does this pattern look familiar? This time I made a lion’s mane by looping yarn over a toilet paper roll and sewing it to the collar and added a tail with a little tuft at the end.

The next years brought along a store-bought fairy and Supergirl, but by last year my talents were back in demand. For the cheetah costume I modified the jacket and pants of this pattern

by adding a tail to the pants and some ears to the hood. My daughter insisted on the pink bits for the ears.

This year, after pouring over a list of 100 plus Pokemon, we agreed on the Sneasel, an ice-type pokemon

I’m planning on using the same jacket and pants pattern with a bright pink feather boa for the tail and the feather ear. Only 23 days to go. I’ll keep you posted.
