To me this word carries so much portent and expectation that it shuts me right down. Merriam Webster defines it as “a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation.” Whoa, I don’t think I’ve received any of that yet. The American Heritage Dictionary explains that inspiration is the “stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity.” That’s more my ball park.
I would describe my condition as having ideas that are based on other people’s ideas that in turn were probably based on another idea - an endless evolution of tweaks on the original inspiration. There’s that word again.
For example, the applique on this bag
was “inspired” by Revoluzza’s article on how she goes about creating her dolls.
The fold up feature of my shopping bags
was influenced by a closer examination of my daughter’s windbreaker as I was folding it up in the car.
I do have an inspiration notebook that I maintain haphazardly.
But nothing like this:
If Brian’s board inspires you to put together your own, here are some tutorials:

By the way, this post was inspired by the “What inspires you” series soon to be featured on Upstate Fancy.

I love seeing where inspiration has taken you; it’s fun to track where we’ve got our ideas from. Sometimes they are found in the most random situations and places!
Like you, I’m more of an American Heritage kinda girl! It doesn’t seem to take too many clicks around the web for me to get inspired. There are so many folks out there doing amazing things. Alas, for now, I just need to get myself inspired to get those pesky chores done so I can get down to some real fun.
